First position, demi-plié, tendu, and rond de jambe... These few words resonate with every dancer as the first words of a universal language: the language of dance. They mark the beginning of a dream: the dream of becoming a danseuse Étoile. Each new season, this dream is rekindled, fueled by passion and the desire to improve.
Dance is a demanding discipline, where every detail matters. At Repetto, we share this passion and are committed to providing you with the essentials that accompany every step: shoes, leotards, tights, and accessories, designed to enhance your movements.
History of the House :
1947: Rose Repetto, mother of prima ballerina Roland Petit, set up a tiny ballet shoes workshop at 22 rue de la Paix, nearby the Paris Opera. She began to make ballet shoes using a new technique, cousu-retourné, which gave the shoes unequalled suppleness and comfort. The Opera dancers soon flocked to Madame Repetto's workshop. The greatest ballerinas of the day adopted her unique ballet shoes and Repetto became the reference in the world of dance.
In 1956, Brigitte Bardot, then a dancer at the Paris Conservatoire, pushed the door of Madame Repetto's shoe workshop and asked her to design a pair of city shoes for her that would be as light and comfortable as her ballet shoes. The legendary Cendrillon ballerina was born, using the unique technique of Cousu-retourné.
In the 1970s, another iconic shoe was born: the mythical Zizi, inspired by the jazz shoe and created as a tribute to Zizi Jeanmaire, the iconic dancer and socialite of the time. The Zizi is made from a soft and thin leather that follows the movements of the foot to perfection. Serge Gainsbourg was seduced by the comfort of this model and made it an inseparable part of his look, propelling it to the rank of mythical shoe through the generations.
