Brand Profile
The Ailey School is the official school of the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Founded in 1969 by dance legend Alvin Ailey, the School honors Mr. Ailey’s vision by providing an unparallelled, professional dance education with a focus on multidisciplinary training.
The Ailey School’s conservatory-like training programs are for aspiring dancers in two age divisions: a Junior Division, ages 12 to 15, and a Professional Division, ages 16 to 25. We will offer auditions for our 4-week Junior Division Summer Intensive, and our 5-week Professional Division Summer Intensive. We will also offer an audition for acceptance to our three full-time Professional Division Programs that take place during the academic school year - 3-Year Certificate Program, 1-Year Independent Study Program, and our 1- to 2-Year Scholarship Program, which offers financial assistance to dancers who demonstrate the highest potential. Students train in a wide range of dance styles and techniques and are encouraged to find their own creativity to become well-rounded dancers. Our programs also offer ensemble performing experience, and dedicated career advisement that prepare our students for the rigors and challenges of a career in dance.
Also being offered is a special introduction to the groundbreaking Ailey Teacher Certification Program; Ailey Horton Technique (ATCP). Tracy Inman, the Ailey School Co-Director and creator of the ATCP, will present the pedagogical approaches and teaching principles of this innovative certification. He will teach an Ailey Horton Master Class, followed by a ballet Master Class by Ailey School Ballet teacher, Michela Boschetto.
Master Teacher Judine Somerville will also lead two Musical Theater Master Classes: “Broadway’s Dynamite Dance Experience.” Ms. Somerville is part of The Ailey School faculty and choreographs the final performance, “Summer Sizzler,” for The Ailey School’s Summer Intensive.
