The Pitti Discovery Foundation, in collaboration with Nutida Festival (Stazione Utopia) and Musicus Concentus, has launched a call for Under-25 DanzAutori as part of the Calimala | Disclosure Platform project, to be showcased at Danzainfiera.
Selected participants will embark on a creative journey within the framework of Calimala | Disclosure Platform. Upon selection, they will receive an original musical composition created specifically for the occasion by London-based Studio Batsumi. Using this track, the participants will craft and present their own contemporary dance creations. The presentation will take place at Danzainfiera on February 21, in front of a dedicated jury. This jury will engage with the artists and select those who will have the opportunity to perform at the Nutida Festival, an event dedicated to contemporary dance. Additionally, during a concert by Studio Batsumi on February 22 at Danzainfiera, there will be a collective presentation of the artistic work created during the project.

Calimala | Disclosure Platform is a music and dance production that draws a parallel between the historical practices of Florentine merchants—who sourced fabrics from across Europe, refining them through skilled and secretive dyeing and softening processes before selling them at markets spanning East and West—and today’s digital musicians. These musicians, inspired by the pioneering techniques of 1940s musique concrète and 1960s Jamaican music, extract elements of rhythm and melody from diverse musical sources, reworking them to craft entirely new sonic universes.

The project features Studio Batsumi, which will compose original music for the dancers, record and edit tracks for choreography, and, after one day of rehearsals, deliver a live performance. This event will include the dance ensemble in a world premiere.
